Signature Entertainment Announce Five of Their Features Films at BFI London Film Festival 2018

Signature Entertainment have announced their impressive slate of five feature films premiering at the 62nd BFI London Film Festival. The five titles hosting their UK premieres at the prestigious festival include nail-biting Danish noir-thriller THE GUILTY, brutal survival story ARCTIC, tense South-Korean political thriller THE SPY GONE NORTH, hilarious awkward comedy BENJAMIN and DUPLICATE, the moving sci-fi tale about human connection. Synopses of the films can be found below, along with screening dates, times and locations.

ARCTIC is the unrelenting story of a man who, after being stranded in the Arctic for what seems like a lifetime, is finally about to receive his long-awaited rescue. However, after a tragic accident, his opportunity for sanctuary is lost. As a result, he has a formidable decision to make: remain in the relative safety of his camp or embark on a deadly trek through the treacherous tundra in a last grasp for salvation. ARCTIC stars the award winning Mads Mikkelsen (TVs Hannibal, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and is director Joe Penna’s feature debut, for which he was nominated for the Camera D’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. ARCTIC will be receiving its theatrical release early 2019.

BENJAMIN is a drama-comedy about feeling isolated and struggling for connection. The film opens with Benjamin (Colin Morgan; Legend), a rising star filmmaker, on the brink of premiering his difficult second film ’No Self’ at London Film Festival, when Billie (Jessica Raine; TVs Wolf Hall), his hard drinking publicist, introduces him to a mesmeric French musician called Noah (Phénix Brossard; Chocolat). Written and Directed by Simon Amstell (Carnage), with excellent supporting performances from Joel Fry (TVs Game of Thrones; Plebs) and Jessie Cave (Pride), BENJAMIN is a semi-autobiographical character study of a man trying to break down his defence mechanisms in his desperate search for love. BENJAMIN will be receiving its nationwide release early 2019.

DUPLICATE stars Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver; The Fault in Our Stars) as Jonathan, who lives an extraordinarily mundane life. He goes to work. He eats alone. He plays video games. However, he does swap video messages daily with his friend John, with whom he shares a modest apartment. The lives of the two are entwined, but in a convoluted and unconventional way. So, when Jonathan breaks one of the ironclad rules that govern their ordered lives, their structured existence and their own individual autonomy threaten to collide. DUPLICATE will be receiving a multi-platform release early 2019.

THE GUILTY is a gripping Nordic Noir following alarm dispatcher and former police officer, Asger Holm (Jakob Cedergren; Submarino), who answers an emergency call from a kidnapped woman. When the call is suddenly disconnected, the search for the woman and her kidnapper begins. Winner of the World Cinema Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival, THE GUILTY is a suspenseful and gritty thriller that promises to get you on the edge of your seat. THE GUILTY will be receiving a nationwide theatrical release on 26th October.

THE SPY GONE NORTH documents the intense political atmosphere between North Korea and South Korea in the late 20th Century. In 1993, former military officer Park Suk-young (Hwang Jung-min; Veteran) is recruited as a spy by South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS), and given the codename “Black Venus”. He is then sent to infiltrate a group of high-ranking North Korean officials based in Beijing, with the ultimate goal of acquiring information on the North’s nuclear program. After becoming close to Ri Myong-un (Lee Sung-min; A Violent Prosecutor), a key power broker, Black Venus succeeds beyond his wildest dreams by gaining the trust of North Korea’s leadership. But political machinations on both sides of the border threaten to derail his accomplishments. THE SPY GONE NORTH will be coming to the small screen on 22nd October.

I love practical effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Yakuza Zero and Mafia III.
