‘OVERLORD’S JULIUS AVERY TO DIRECT ‘FLASH GORDON’ REMAKE

Kill me, but I’m one of those people who is still annoyed that they never made a sequel to the ridiculous, campy classic that is Flash Gordon. I also enjoy watching the old black and white serials sometimes. I even own the semi-porno Flesh Gordon in my collection [let’s forget about that Syfy TV series though]. So I guess I’m a bit of a fan – and am frustrated at how it seems impossible to get a new movie off the ground. In 1998 Breck Eisner was going to direct a script written by  Steven E. de Souza, but that never happened. Much later, JD Payne wrote a script and then Patrick McKay wrote one which Matthew Vaughn was going to film, until he announced that Guardians Of The Galaxy has stolen his thunder and was very much like the film he was going to make.

Anyway, the news has broken that Julius Avery, director of the fun gory war/horror movie combo Overlord which is out in UK cinemas this Wednesday, is in line to write and direct a Flash Gordon remake – though to be honest I need to see more proof before I can get excited about a new adventure for Flash, Dale, Ming and the rest. I would imagine that the fact that John Carter bombed so badly is still on the minds of any producer trying to get this made.

I'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
