I guess it’s easy to laugh. Sylvester Stallone’s time as Rocky Balboa seemingly come to an end twice before, first after Rocky V in 1990 and later following 2006’s Rocky Balboa. And yet he came back. I have the feeling that Sly really means it this time, with the torch being passed on to Michael B Jordan’s Adonis Creed.
In a video uploaded to Instagram, the actor gave a speech in which he said he was “probably” never going to play the character again, but he was pleased that Jordan could inspire a new generation with his role.In the caption accompanying the video, he wrote:
“I just want to thank everyone around the whole wide World for taking the Rocky family into their hearts for over 40 years. It’s been my Ultimate privilege to have been able to create and play this meaningful character. Though it breaks my heart, Sadly all things must pass… and end. I love you Kind and generous people, and The most wonderful thing of all , is that ROCKY will never die because he lives on in you ….”.
Jordan himself recently said that he wants to continue playing his character in more films, stating: “I want to keep making them as long as they’re good. I always want to keep my finger on the pulse.” Creed 2 has so far had a very good reception despite following on from the only Rocky film I don’t much like. It’s released in the UK on November 30, two days time!
