HCF brings you the sad news that beloved character actor Dick Miller has died at the age of 90. Probably best known for his role as Murray Futterman in Gremlins [see above] and Gremlins 2, but a mainstay of Joe Dante’s films and probably the only actor to play five different people with the same name [Walter Paisley], Miller started out working for Roger Corman in the likes of The Little Shop Of Horrors, and went on to make memorable appearances in films such as The Terminator, The Howling, All The Right Moves, Night of the Creep and Piranha, while TV credits include Police Squad!, Fame, V: The Final Battle, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Tributes have poured in over social media, including:

Joe Dante: “I’m devastated to report that one of my best friends and most treasured collaborators has passed away”.

Rosanna Arquette, poignantly recalling their scene in After Hours: “Rest In Peace Dick Miller, I’m blowing you a kiss. Please catch it.”

Edgar Wright, summing him up perfectly: “RIP Dick Miller, king of the character actors. A friendly, funny face. Any role of his was cult movie nirvana.”

RIP Mr Miller. Think I’ll be watching Gremlins for the umpteenth time tonight.

I'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
