Reports seem to be coming in that the main characters in Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel will be played by four teenagers, consisting of two boys and two girls. ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ first broke the news on Twitter, then ‘Birth.Movies.Death’ added that the kids will be aged between 12 and 13. And last year Dan Aykroyd did say that there was the possibility of a reunion with Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray [Harold Ramis died in 2014], and Aykroyd and Hudson have both teased their possible involvement on Twitter, so I wouldn’t be surprised if some original cast members turn up, even if just briefly. And balancing the genders seems to me to be a reasonable decision.
However, not everyone’s happy. Yes, you’ve guessed it, Paul Feig, still in denial that he made a piece of shit, and the equally tiresome Leslie Jones have voiced their opinions. Wrote Jones on Twitter:
“So insulting. Like f**k us. We dint count. It’s like something trump would do. (Trump voice)’Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers’ ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give f**k I’m saying something!!”
Oh gimme a break Leslie. Did you even notice that TWO FEMALES, and teenagers at that, are lead characters in the new film? And now of course Feig has also stepped in, though in a slightly more measured manner:
“An absolute honest to God never ending supply of bullshit and hate from these trolls. Leslie spoke her truth and I support her. I am very open to Jason’s new version of GB but am also sad that our 2016 team may not get to bust again. We all are. We’re forever proud of our movie”.
Paul and Leslie…while there were undoubtedly some trolls, the main reason that your movie wasn’t liked was because it was an unfunny, tedious piece of crap and you publicly insulted the fans….NOT because it featured four female lead characters.
Anyways, if you haven’t already seen it, here’s the teaser trailer for the new film which is intended for a summer 2020 release.
