The Spookiest Games To Play Online

It’s rare you can find a game that offers the same sort of thrills as a horror film. In some cases you might not want that.

What is necessary though is some great games inspired by some of our favourite titles, taking little gold nuggets from the movies and placing them in entirely new scenarios.

Horror themed games are bigger than ever before and you’ll find hundreds available online and ready to download. But which are the best?

We take a look at a variety of games and why all horror fans should be playing them.

Vampires Slot

There are a number of spooky slots in the casino world and Vampires is just about the best one.

Inspired by, you guessed it, Vampires, it’s not a scary a lot but the amount of money you can make from it is pretty frightening.

Playing online bingo and slots inspired by horror can offer a lot of fun. With casino and it’s online equivalent growing in popularity, in fact you’ll find plenty of horror-based online slots to play, the genres are tying together more and more.

The Vampire slot is a five reel slot with three rows and five paylines, and perhaps the only time you’ll ever be pleased to see a vampire. That’s because the vampire wild symbols open up new games and give players an even better chance to win! There are 15 games within the slot to enjoy. A jackpot awaits!

Lone Survivor

Lone Survivor is a game available on Steam and is a 2D retro-like game that involves solving puzzles and avoiding mutants. It’s had hugely positive reviews and takes us back to old school gaming but in true psychological survivor style.

The aim of the game is to escape a city taken over by disease. You’ll solve puzzles, shoot mutants with a real need to stay fully loaded, as they come thick and fast!

It’s a real adventure that requires a series of decisions that could lead you through the easy way, or the very hard!

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly

Fatal Frame 2 isn’t the latest in the series but it’s certainly the best. Crimson Butterfly is a Japanese survival horror and has a huge number of scares.

The game follows two twins who have followed a butterfly into the woods only to discover a lost village. After finding the Camera Obscura, they’re haunted by past villagers and in order to escape one twin must kill the other.

It’s a game with many dark twists and turns and despite being well over a decade old is still one of the best storylines in horror gaming.

Alan Wake

Fans have been crying out for a second Alan Wake game since its release in 2010, but it’s yet to materialise. For now we’re still playing the original, and boy what a game it is. It’s an all action title with essences of psychological thriller that focuses on fiction writer Alan Wake. After his wife goes missing he’s taken into an entirely different world of the paranormal, with the task of finding her and doing all he can to survive.

Think Twin Peaks, X-Files, Twilight Zone. It’s a true masterpiece and if you haven’t played it, you’ll find yourself on the edge of your seat continually.

I love practical effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Yakuza Zero and Mafia III.
