I only reported the sad news of David Hedison’s death two days ago, and now with a heavy heart I bring you the news that the one and only Rutger Hauer passed away last Friday at the age of 75 after a short illness. His funeral was held yesterday.

Hauer is of course best remembered for his role as the murderous yet soulful replicant Roy Batty in Blade Runner, a brilliant performance by any degree, both frightening and sensitive. But his career is full of highlights showcasing a considerable versatility, something which was already showcased in his early Dutch work with Paul Verhoeven before he moved to Hollywood and became a star due to several iconic roles such as The Hitcher and Blind Fury. The ‘90s saw him move to less prominent and interesting parts but he gave every role his all and had a great star comeback in 2011 as the Hobo With A Shotgun.

I’ll let Guillermo del Toro say the last words:

“RIP the great Rutger Hauer: an intense, deep, genuine and magnetic actor that brought truth, power and beauty to his films. My personal favorites: Flesh + Blood, Eureka, The Hitcher, Blade Runner, Ladyhawke and Blind Fury”.

I'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
