Even though the Fast & Furious series started off being primarily about car racing, it’s now more associated with ever-more over the top action sequences. Despite that, I would have said that having the gang travel to space would be just too absurd – but apparently it’s not something that Chris Morgan, who’s scripted the majority of the films, is ruling out. In an interview with ‘Polygon’, he was asked [jokingly, I presume] if the film series might see Dominic Toretto and company travel to space one day. His reply was:
“I would never shoot down space. Never, never. I would literally never shoot down anything, as long as it hits the parameters: ‘Is it badass? is it awesome? Will the audience love it? And will it not break faith with the audience as they’re watching it?’ I’m down for whatever. It just has to be cool and it has to be good. You know, that’s the thing. I would say nothing is off-limits as long as we can stay on the right side of keeping the audience engaged.”
So it’s certainly possible. And, while I’m not a huge fan of this franchise, maybe I should be more receptive to the idea seeing as Moonraker is one of my most-watched Bond movies.
Anyway, in the meantime the next installment Fast And Furious: Hobbs And Shaw is out this Thursday in the UK, a day before its North American release!
