While I personally thought that The Final Chapter was pretty dire, I certainly found some entertainment in the rest of the Resident Evil films. They all though, even the first one, made the decision to downplay the horror element that’s a major feature of the games. However, it seems that this will be rectified by the proposed reboot that’s going to be directed by Johannes Roberts, who made what was for me probably the most underrated horror movie of last year The Strangers: Prey at Night, and whose 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is currently in US cinemas. Roberts updated us on the status of the project in a chat with ‘Screen Rant’ over the weekend.
“We are in active development of that at the moment. I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great. It’s gonna be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game.”
Sounds promising, though to be honest I’m going to miss Milla. Who are they going to get to replace her?
