Another remake, and this time it’s of a film I haven’t even seen. I remember it coming to the cinema I used to work at, playing in a nearly empty screen for a week, then going. However, the dystopian comic book adventure from 1995 Tank Girl about a heroic woman fighting against the tyranny of a mega-corporation that dominates the remaining potable water supply of Earth, seems to have got a minor cult following since then. The news broke yesterday that Margot Robbie and her company LuckyChap Entertainment had their sights set on bringing the property back to the big screen, with Robbie playing the role first essayed by Lori Petty. And now it’s come through that the film now has a director in place, Dreamland‘s Miles Joris-Peyrafitte. Rachel Talahay directed the original movie.
It now seems that Robbie will not be ‘definitely’ starring until she’s read a script, and we don’t seem to have one yet so it could be while before this gets off the ground. It also appears that Tank Girl creators Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett haven’t actually been contacted about the project, which could possibly hold up things too.
