Last week the news broke that Andy Muschietti, the director of both IT movies, wants to do a “supercut” of the two films that will be incorporate deleted and even new footage. I theorised then that the cut scene of Pennywise eating a baby might instead find its way into a prequel, and it now seems that Muschietti is certainly up for a Pennywise solo film – which could possibly be a prequel. As he said to ‘CinePOP’ recently:
“This is the conclusion of the book, so there is no part three. This is the end of the journey of the Losers against Pennywise. But, as we all know the mythology is very rich, and in Stephen King’s book Pennywise has been around for a million years, he’s been in contact with humans for at least five hundred years, and he comes back every 27 years”.
When asked if he’d consider directing a Pennywise prequel, the filmmaker cryptically replied “Eventually”.
Could there be the makings of a Pennywise franchise here? After all, the first IT wasn’t really far from a Nightmare On Elm Street film if you think about it.
Anyway, It: Chapter Two is out on September 6th, three days time, and our review should be up soon after.
