Too Scared to Watch THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE?

Do you love Halloween, but are not the biggest horror fan? Do you want to get in the mood, but are too scared of being scared? Well… The Haunting of Hill House might be a show about, well, a haunted house, but it’s so much more than that!

Hailed as “one of the best horror TV series we’ve seen in years” (Sci-fi Now), The Haunting of Hill House is a beautifully crafted family drama, and one which brilliantly explores the notion that sometimes the scariest thing is not necessarily the ghosts and spirits which haunt a house, rather the people who live in it.

Just in case you’re still not sure, here are five other reasons to watch The Haunting of Hill House this month, out now on Blu-ray™ and DVD from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Fascinating Family Drama, with a side of ghost stories

The Haunting of Hill House is a story led by fascinating characters with a rich history and depth. It is a carefully crafted family drama, with emotional trajectories and moving relationships within the seemingly dysfunctional set-up. Each character is endlessly fascinating, dealing with the horrors of the house in their own individual manner, yet, to survive; they must come together as a family unit to face their collective demons. You might need to whip out a box of tissues for this one.

Visually Stunning

Mike Flanagan has established himself as a top horror director with films like Oculus and Hush, and has gone above and beyond to further assert himself within the genre in this stunning 12 part series. Not only is the house something to behold, but Flanagan and cinematographer Michael Fimognari have gone the extra mile to create a unique visual edge to the series, where every shot looks like it could be in a haunted painting.

Talented Cast

The cast of The Haunting of Hill House have been praised for their brilliant portrayal of the complexity within the story, unanimously nailing the multi-faceted nature of each individuals experience within it. And thankfully, the younger cast, of which there are many, are just as fantastic as their older counterparts.

Shirley Jackson is a Horror Legend

Shirley Jackson’s original novel ‘Hill House’, on which the show is based, has been widely considered one of the greatest ghost stories ever written! Jackson has also been cited as an influence for a diverse set of authors, amongst which are Neil Gaiman, Sarah Waters and Stephen King, rending her work a must-see!

It’s Halloween, and everyone’s talking about it!

Get out your comfort zone and get in to the spirit of Halloween! Everyone is talking about this show right now… including Stephen King, who claims it is “close to a work of genius!” If that isn’t enough to convince you, then there isn’t much else which could!

I love practical effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Yakuza Zero and Mafia III.
