Some time around the middle of last year came the news that Taika Waititi’s live-action adaptation of the classic anime Akira was canceled so he could work on Thor: Love And Thunder. However, he thinks that the project will still come to fruition. As he said to ‘Variety’:
“The whole thing went on hold. We had to keep pushing the dates, and it encroached on the Thor: Love And Thunder dates, which were immovable. So Akira ended up shifting two years down the track. So I’m not sure if even in two years I’d be — I don’t know what I’m doing in f****** two days. I think eventually it will happen. I’m just not sure if I’ll be doing it”.
Well an Akira remake was first talked about back in 2002, so a couple more years isn’t a big dea. I must admit, I was initially against the idea, but after Alita: Battle Angel proved that it is possible to produce a good anime remake, I’ve become cautiously optimistic.
