The Omen spawned three sequels, a remake and a short-lived television series. Then in 2016, it was announced that a feature film prequel, written by The Conjuring‘s Chad and Carey Hayes, was in the works at 20th Century Fox. We’ve heard nothing more about that until now, when, in an interview with ‘ComicBook.com’ , the Hayes brothers suggested that it sill might happen.
“We did the prequel to The Omen, which is also sitting over at Fox, that, rumor has it, that it is going into production. So we’ll see what happens. We get to tell you where Damien came from. It was really fun. That was great.”
I like three of the Omen films and don’t mind the remaining two, but – come on now!- do we really need to go into detail about the origin of Damien? Surely it’s left better shrouded in some mystery. We know that he’s the son of the Devil and isn’t that enough? Of course it’s possible that the resulting film may turn out great and make me eat my words. But until now, I can’t say I’m excited about this at all!
