I’m sure that most websites illustrated this news with a pic of Hugh Jackman’s Van Helsing from the 2004 film of that name, but the Hammer fan in me never passes up an opportunity to put something Hammer-related into a post. I actually don’t mind Universal’s first attempt at a blockbuster featuring Bram Stoker’s famous vampire hunter, but I know I’m in the minority and it was a flop at the box office. However, the studio is trying again, with James Wan set to produce and Overlord‘s Julius Avery set to direct a new Van Helsing movie.

We don’t know the screenwriter so far, nor do we know if it will be a modern reimagining ala The Invisible Man and the upcoming Wolfman and Bride Of Frankenstein, or a period piece. My guess is that it will be set in the present day so that Universal can still do something akin to their Dark Universe thing that they attempted to inflict on us before even though few seemed interested. At least it now seems that all these films will be actual horror films as opposed to Marvel-style, CG-overloaded actioners, which is definitely a good thing.

I'm a huge film fan and will watch pretty much any type of film, from Martial Arts to Westerns, from Romances [though I don't really like Romcoms!]] to Historical Epics. Though I most certainly 'have a life', I tend to go to the cinema twice a week! However, ever since I was a kid, sneaking downstairs when my parents had gone to bed to watch old Universal and Hammer horror movies, I've always been especially fascinated by horror, and though I enjoy all types of horror films, those Golden Oldies with people like Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee probably remain my favourites. That's not to say I don't enjoy a bit of blood and gore every now and again though, and am also a huge fan of Italian horror, I just love the style.
