A bold statement to make, but “DARK WEST” an upcoming Vampire flick which is to be directed by Kiah Roache-Turner and written by Richard Kadrey, is already being compared to the 1987 Vampire classic Near Dark – yes that will either get you ever excited or have you shaking your head with doubts – but hey, we are a sucker for those who bite, so lets pencil us down as a tiny bit exciting.
Chris Goldberg’s Winterlight Pictures has already optioned “Dark West” and Roache-Turner is eyeing to direct the film in his native Australia. Kadrey is also working on turning the concept into a graphic novel.
The brief summary we have is this:
“Dark West” is a vampire revenge thriller set on the highways of Texas that follows two car thieves who accidentally T-bone a pair of vampires in the middle of the night. The story is in the vein of the classic ’80s horror films “The Hitcher” and Kathryn Bigelow’s “Near Dark.”
Roache-Turner is currently working on the sequel “Wyrmwood Apocalypse,”, with the original becoming a massive cult fav since its release in 2015.
