DC Movie universe in disarray as WB shelve Batgirl from release!

It seems that the DC movie universe is once again in total disarray as its emerged that Warner Bros have axed the release of Batgirl, an origin tale that has been basically already made and would have seen Michael Keaton reprise his role as BATMAN.

Its a shocking move by the studio considering the film cost up to $100m (£82m) to make and is already in post-production.

The film was to star Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon, or Batgirl with J.K. Simmons reprising his role as Commissioner Jim Gordon, while Brendan Fraser was the villain Firefly.

The movie was due to appear on the HBO Max streaming service, but at the beginning of the year, it was being reported that the studio were confident about the project and were also considering releasing the film in cinemas.

Re-shoots and a negative test screening has convinced WB to axe the film directed by the duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

A statement from the studio had this to say:

The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max.”

Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor, and this decision is not a reflection of her performance, we are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts, and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future”

With problems also regarding THE FLASH movie, it seems that DC and WB are still struggling to establish their universe, after the complicated history of the Snyderverse.

Will we ever get to see Keaton back in the cowl? Lets hope!
