I must say what a brilliant short Eel Girl is. With a running time of just over 5 mins, this short film by Paul Campion packs a punch. With only a few words uttered at the beginning, this film’s actions speak louder than words. The scientist licking his lips over the beautiful creature before him, part girl, part eel. We can tell the scientist releases her on a regular basis, his infatuation uncontrollable, the desire too strong. However we must not forget she is a creature that has been locked up in a facility.  I think the last thing on her mind is to get hot and steamy with the pervy scientist.

The effects used in this short film are minimal and extremely effective. The blue hue gives a cold, isolated feeling, whilst the set and props create the official laboratory feel. All this, added with professional cinematography, creates this very well shot film.

I’d like to see more of filmmaker Paul Campion’s work, especially if it’s anything like this remarkable film. I’m definitely looking forward to his first feature film, Devil’s Rock, about a World War 2 German bunker overrun with Nazi occult demon mayhem.

I love practical effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Yakuza Zero and Mafia III.
