A sort of cross between Misery and A Woman Scorned, this actually looked pretty good to begin with. A dark night, a woman on a road who gets hit by a car, and then we go into some credits with a good choice of song to get you in the mood for possibly another straight to dvd gem. After the credits, about three minutes in, we are introduced to Shelby, played by Mischa Barton, and the first things she does it talk, and the first thing you wanna do now is switch the bloody thing off! It had a nice quality to the opening, then it all went wrong. It does redeem itself a bit, but this was never gonna be more than average.
Shelby is obsessed with her ex, who arrives back in their small village town for a big football game. Bringing his new girlfriend along (the very attractive Jessica Stroup), things go from bad to worse as the nutter that is Shelby decides to go all Kathy Bates on his new girlfriend. After meeting Shelby, the girlfriend gets drunk and decides, after Shelby’s advise, it’s best not to meet her new mans parents while drunk so goes to a bed and breakfast. Nothings open so she decides to walk through the country lanes (as you would) and while stupidly standing in the middle of the road, get run over by none other than Shelby!! Shelby then takes her home, drugs her and keeps her locked away in her bedroom while she nurses her back to health. Shelby also uses this as an opportunity to get back with her ex thanks to making out his new love has run off. All been done before, and Mischa Barton is a terrible terrible actress. There is a sense of menace, but you never really think Shelby will lose it because she played so un-convincingly. This is a very average obsession thriller that will pass 90 minutes nicely, and the fact there aren’t too many of these around anymore, i suppose in a way its quite refreshing
