Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman (2000)
Directed by: Michael Cooney
Written by: Michael Cooney
Starring: Chip Heller, Christopher Allport, Eileen Seeley
Unfortunately Jack Frost 2 is not a sequel to the family friendly Michael Keaton film of the same name. Which is a shame as you can imagine the reaction from unsuspecting parents when they put the film on. Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman is a no-budget “horror/comedy”, following on from the 1996 film Jack Frost (not the Michael Keaton film). Still haunted by his experiences with the killer snowman in the first film, protagonist Sam Tiler decides to take a holiday in a tropical location. Meanwhile, the FBI have taken the anti-freeze, used to kill Jack in the previous film, back to their laboratory for testing, unwittingly having taken the melted mutant as well. A lab accident results in Jack Frost being reanimated and back on the rampage and hunting down Sam Tiler.
Yes, that’s right. A snowman, in a Jaws the Revenge-like plot, follows the protagonist to a tropical paradise. Yes, it’s a film about a killer snowman so some suspension of disbelief is required, but come on! The film is supposed to be a comedy, but the problem is, it tries too hard. I’ve seen plenty of crappy no-budget films which play it so seriously, it actually makes it funny, which if this film did the same would probably work, but it’s not funny. At all. The characters are quite annoying, if they aren’t an air-headed bimbo, they’re an idiot. The acting in this film is bad even by my standards! It’s like watching a porn film without the sex. That’s how good the ‘actors’ are! I’ve seen plenty of crap SyFy movie of the week films and straight to DVD tosh, a lot of which are usually so bad they’re good beer movies, but Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman is just bad.
