Reviver by Seth Patrick is set to be one of the most explosive debut fiction titles of 2013, to be published on 20th June 2013 both in the UK and US, courtesy of Pan Macmillan and St Martin’s respectively.

Revivers. Able to wake the recently dead, and let them bear witness to their own demise. Twelve years after the first reviver came to light, they have become accepted by an uneasy public. The testimony of the dead is permitted in courtrooms across the world. Forensic revival is a routine part of police investigation.

In the United States, that responsibility falls to the Forensic Revival Service. Despite his troubled past, Jonah Miller is one of their best. But while reviving the victim of a brutal murder, he encounters a terrifying presence. Something is watching. Waiting. His superiors tell him it was only in his mind, a product of stress. Jonah is not so certain.

Then Daniel Harker, the first journalist to bring revival to public attention, is murdered, and Jonah finds himself getting dragged into the hunt for answers. Working with Harker’s daughter Annabel, he’s determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice. Soon they uncover long-hidden truths that call into doubt everything Jonah stands for, and reveal a threat that if not stopped in time, will put all of humanity in danger . . .

Seth’s novel is dark and chilling and has been described as Stephen King for the HBO generation, as well as being compared to Justin Cronin. Film rights have already been snapped up by Legendary Pictures (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Watchmen, Man of Steel ).

The book’s conception began during a short writing course run by bestselling crime writer Peter James. At the end of the first class, Peter set a task for the following week: to write the first 250 words of a horror novel, introducing the protagonist and a murder weapon. This was the genesis of Reviver! Seth’s novel has been described by Peter James as “brilliant, original and very scary”“A debut supernatural thriller from a startling new talent”. It has also been selected by Stylist as one of the cult books of 2013, and Publishers Weekly stated, “Supernatural thrillers don’t get much better than… Patrick’s assured debut”.

The book itself can be used with Blippar, an app that allows you to instantly convert anything in the static, print world into an interactive experience. Through Blippar, readers can bring the girl on the cover of the book back to life and hear what she has to say. The reader can become a reviver. After the blipp, users are invited to tap through to the Forensic Revival Service website where they can access exclusive content surrounding the book.

I love practical effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Yakuza Zero and Mafia III.
