We’ve got some very exciting news to tell you all!
Towards the end of 2013, HorrorCultFilms put themselves forward to be considered as entrants in the first National UK Blog Awards for 2014. Without a category for entertainment, we confirmed that our blog genre would come under Art and Culture. With each blog category were two sections: individual and organisation. Individual blogs were run by, you guessed it, one person, whilst organisation blogs were for those blogs contributed to by more than one person: that’s us!
At the beginning of December, the public vote was opened for two months to allow blog readers to vote for their favourite blogs, with 10 from each category to be shortlisted.
We shouted from the virtual rooftops to ask our loyal readers to vote for us, and they must have granted us that honour as we were announced as shortlisted for the 2014 UK Blog Awards!
The following months, every shortlisted blog was assessed by a panel of judges, with the winner and two runners up decided for each category and contributer division.
The selected winnners and runners up were kept a secret until judgement day…
The awards were held on Friday 25th April 2014. We were up against some stiff competition, especially being a horror site amongst more refined tastes. So imagine our joy when we were selected as ‘highly commended’ runners up alongside the Tate galleries blog! The winning blog was announced as The British Library’s Medieval Manuscripts blog.
Coming runner up alongside and to two terrific blogs, as well as being shortlisted amongst some other fantastic arts and culture blogs is a coup for HorrorCultFilms. Each of us here at HCF pour our heart and soul into the site and slog until the late and early hours to keep our readers up to date with the latest film news and entertainment releases.
Whilst we’re proud and pleased to have been recognised, we’re utterly grateful for you, the readers, who’ve helped to get us to where we are. This achievement is not just for HCF, but for the entire horror genre: the fans, the filmmakers, the media – everyone who has a passion for horror and film can see that the genre can be recognised!
So we’d like to end with a big thank you to everyone who’s ever read, worked with, written for or corresponded with HCF. This achievement is for us all.
