Grimm Up North present a series of film screenings based of the works of cutting edge contemporary authors at the amazing new venue of the recently renovated Manchester Central Library.
First up is FIGHT CLUB on 26th March 2015. Fight Club is directed by David Fincher and is based on the book by American writer Chuck Palahnuik. It tells the twisting tale of A ticking-time-bomb insomniac and a slippery soap salesman who channel their primal male aggression into a shocking new form of therapy. Their concept catches on, with underground “fight clubs” forming in every town, until an eccentric gets in the way and ignites an out-of-control spiral toward oblivion. Invoking dark themes surrounding consumerism & facism, Fincher’s film became a cult classic around the world and is a must see on the big screen. Each film screening in this series will begin with a lecture around the film and its literary roots.
The doors open at 5.30pm and tickets are £5.50 (including fees) from SeeTickets
The second screening is AMERICAN PSYCHO on 2nd April 2015. American Psycho is an adaptation of Brett Easton Ellis’s iconic book, directed by Mary Harron and starring Christian Bale, Jared Leto and Willem Defoe. American Psycho follows Patrick Bateman who lives Wall Street by day and his nights are spent in ways impossible to fathom. He’s a soul-less, modern monster whose zealous materialism and piercing envy fuels his homicidal activities. Focusing in themes of capitalism and the commodification of human beings, this ultra violent literary adaptation became a huge cult hit and propelled Christian Bale to super-stardom. Each film screening in this series will begin with a lecture around the film and its literary roots.
