Having loved the trilogy of The Matrix movies, even if the first film outshines the rest (Dr Lenera has other opinions in his highly recommended Matrix retrospective article), colour me excited for the upcoming release of The Matrix 4, which now know is titled The Matrix Resurrections.
Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith and Lambert Wilson are the only returning cast members from the franchise as far as we know, whilst the fourth film sees a host of new faces including Jessica Henwick, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Christina Ricci, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Daniel Bernhardt.
Lana Wachowski is taking the reigns solo this time round as director without her sibling, and also taking writing duties alongside David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas & Sense8) and Aleksander Hemons (Sense8) so I am putting my faith in them that they have an exciting story to tell.
The official teaser trailer will be revealed on Thursday 9th September at 13:58 GMT+1 but, if you’re unable to wait til then, you can catch a glimpse of some scenes from the film thanks to the interactive Matrix website which poses the familiar question: would you take the blue pill or the red pill? The choice is yours. Choose the red pill multiple times and you’ll be treated to a different series of footage each time.
The Matrix Resurrections is expected to be released in cinemas on 22nd December 2021.
