Christopher Landon, writer of Disturbia, Freaky and the Paranormal Activity sequels and director of Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U, has been announced as writer/director for the upcoming remake of 90’s horror comedy hit ARACHNOPHOBIA.
The remake will be produced by Amblin and James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster Productions.
The 90’s version of ARACHNOPHOBIA starred Jeff Daniels as a small-town doctor who discovers that a Venezuelan venomous spider has mated with a house spider in his barn, with its killer offspring terrorising the neighbourhood and preying on its residents.
The film was released as a PG so it will be interesting to see if this remake will keep the scares to a similar level or ramp them up to terrifying proportions.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, around 3%-15% of the population suffer from a fear of spiders so the film won’t be short of people squirming in their seats.
With Landon a self-confessed arachnophobe, it’ll be interesting to see how much he puts himself out of his comfort zone to freak us out with the eight legged beasties.
