This Father’s Day, you’ll want to get your dad, or father figure, something a bit special – not just a pair of socks or a new shirt, but something really exciting like a new car. Not a real one, but one that’s nevertheless superbly stylish and super fast, and that he’ll want to show off to the neighbours (and that you can play with together).
So, in advance of the big day on 18th June this year, we’ve put together a handy guide to help you work out which vehicle is the best fit for your dad, from the highly collectable Scalextric Film and TV range – you can choose from the Bond films, Back to the Future, and there’s even the talking car from Knight Rider!
This is a great way to give him a beautifully detailed and obsessively researched scale model car to display. Should you have some Scalextric track at home (and he’ll let you take his present out of its pristine display case which looks lovely on a shelf) you can have some racing fun as well on the special Sunday!
Is he always going on about what a great time the 1980s were? Then it’s a no brainer – get him the DeLorean time machine (C4307) from Back to the Future 3, complete with the Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor.
Is your dad into his music, his vinyl records and old school blues? Then the beautifully battered Dodge Monaco police car (C4322), complete with speaker strapped to the roof from the classic comedy film The Blues Brothers will be for him. Or the undented Chicago Police car (C4407), if he prefers something a little more respectable!
Is he into his gizmos and gadgets? If your dad was the first person you knew to get a Sat Nav, then you simply must grab him the car replica of K.I.T.T (C42266), that features a cool working red strobe light, from the hit TV show Knight Rider.
Does he prefer polishing his car in the garage rather than taking it out for a drive? The best thing about these cars is you don’t even need to put them on a track and race them – they come in superb display cases so you can put them straight onto a shelf, to the envy of the dad next door, and spend hours admiring the extraordinary details on each model. “At Scalextric, we’re proud of our attention to detail when it comes to creating miniature versions of iconic film and TV cars,” says Head of Brand, Simon Owen. “We start by researching every aspect of the vehicle, using 3D printing and prototyping to refine the design. Our cars feature custom details unique to each on-screen appearance, such as the strobing light on K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider and the light-up Flux Capacitor on the DeLorean from Back to the Future. We’re passionate about bringing beloved pop culture vehicles to life on the track.”
Does he fancy himself as the next 007? They’re about to announce which actor is going to play the new James Bond. Does your dad secretly hope he might be spotted by an agent and asked to play the role. To avoid disappointment, grab him the Lotus Esprit (C4301) from For Your Eyes Only, with skis on the roof for an emergency getaway, or the sleek white convertible Ford Mustang (C4404)from Goldfinger, so he can practise his smooth moves and handbrake turns – in case he does get the part!
Does your dad claim that there’s nothing funny on TV any more? Then it’s up to you to provide some laughs, with the green Mini (C4334) from comedy classic Mr Bean, featuring the hapless Mr Bean sitting in his armchair strapped to the top of the car. I’m sure your dad will agree – it’s the only way to travel!
