When Detective Mark Lewis (Frank Grillo) is called to a local house, he finds the bodies of three slaughtered college students. The only survivor, John (Dustin Milligan) claims they held a séance to summon ghosts of people killed in the house years earlier. Now, three of his friends are dead and two are missing – including his pregnant girlfriend.

Teaming up criminal psychologist Dr Elizabeth Klein (Maria Bello), Det. Lewis investigates the videotapes discovered at the scene to try and uncover what really happened that night. What they find is more terrifying than they ever could have imagined…

BatWhilst I love prosthetic effects, stop-motion animation and gore, nothing can beat a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. I don't do 3D movies so put the red and green spex away!

  1. Arbogast perfect in Psycho, only a few scenes but excellent

  2. Detective Joseph Thorne In Hellraiser: Inferno. He’s a corrupt drug-user who has to endure those disturbing hallucinations because of Pinhead’s puzzle box. A very underrated movie.

  3. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt in Se7en

  4. Patrick Dempsey as Detective Mark Kincaid in Scream3. great film. love Liev Schreiber. great actor. love the fact that the scream series was still entertaining, some sequels are pants.

  5. August Diehl and Christian Redl in Tattoo – oh really creepy

  6. Morgan Freeman in Se7en, one of my favourite actors, hope that is enough reason.

  7. I’m going with Morgan Freeman in Se7en too. Great film and great actor!

  8. Jodie foster in silence of the lambs because the the was not gory but it let you imagine the terror in your mind and she played her part to perfection.

  9. I can’t think of any I particularly like!

  10. Denzil Washington and Angelina Jolie’s brilliant paring in the Bone Collector. A paraphlegic and a rookie cop made for a fantastic storyline.

  11. Brad Pitt in se7en for obvious reasons, but also as he acted the part brilliantly

  12. Al Pacino in Insomnia, his portrayal of a detective on the edge, being sleep deprive and not loosing his mind while hunting a killer is quite well played in my opinion.

  13. From Hell with Johnny Depp as detective Frederick Abberline…..

  14. Harry D’Amour in Lord of Illusions.

  15. Basil Rathbone in The Scarlet Claw – because I love old movies 😛

  16. Maniac Cop!

  17. Horatio Cain in CSI Miami, I like his sultry look!

  18. Morgan Freeman in Se7en was brilliant but I think for sheer “chillingness” I’ll go with his Alex Cross in Along Came A Spider. Superb movie and whilst not a ‘horror’ it certainly provided enough of the genre requirements within its story. MF was fantastically believable as Alex Cross.

  19. Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) in the Wickerman! Plenty of freaky paganistic stuff going on Summerisle that makes you wonder what really goes on in some rural or isolated communities.

  20. Loved Shutter Island with Leonardo di Caprio who plays a detective sent to investigate a disappearance from an asylum. Great performance from Leo.

  21. Morgan Freeman in S7en – he’s really dogged in this film.

  22. I’ll go for something completely different & say Detective Frank Drebin in Naked Gun, the first film was so funny!

  23. To be different, I always quite liked Tom Sizemore in The Relic

  24. John Hobbes in Fallen – one of Denzel’s underrated films I.M.O.

  25. Johnny Depp as detective Frederick Abberline in From Hell

  26. Morgan Freeman in Along came a Spider and Kiss the Girls – I’m a big fan of James Patterson and Morgan Freeman is perfectly cast as Alex Cross

  27. Detective Kinderman in the exorcist.

  28. Denzel Washington as John Hobbes in Fallen – great performance and chilling film.

  29. sergeant howie

  30. Morgan Freeman in Se7en, absolutely brilliant.

  31. Although he’s a Private Detective, Harry Angel from Angel Heart. The scene where he’s slowly realising who he really is, stays with me.

  32. going to go with liam cunningham in argento’s “the card player”. it’s not great argento (in fact, it’s nearer the bottom end of his work than the top), but liam cunningham rocked up in that film, threw away the script and did something no-one does in argento films: acted.

him bursting into the office of the turin police at the start of the movie and, in his thick irish accent, shouting “this is all bollocks!” is one of my favourite cinematic moments.

  33. Big Arnie in End of Days.

  34. Harry Angel in Angel Heart – brilliantly played, beautifully trapped – a wonderful performance in a great film.

  35. morgan freeman in seven

  36. Clarice Starling

  37. Clarice starling as she overcomes adversity in a male dominated profession.

  38. Morgan Freeman in se7en.

  39. Brad Pitt in Se7en

  40. yep I agree with john hobbs in fallen

  41. Clarice Starling of the F.B.I. 😉 Silence of the Lambs is one of my all time fave movies and I think Jodie Foster’s best film. It’s a shame she didn’t come back for the sequel as Julianne Moore ruined it for me. Clarice didn’t let the fear of the hunt take over even though it creeped me out 😉

  42. Johnny Depp in From Hell

  43. Another vote for jodi foster as “clarice”, even now i can hear hannibal saying her name, and i agree with jo carroll i would have loved her to reprise her role in the sequel.

  44. Jodie Foster playing Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs

  45. Mikael Blomkvist played by Michael Nyqvist is a great performance and the movie has a great storyline.

  46. Sorry, the movie is A Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

  47. Arlo Ray Baines in Boo. Great film.

  48. Morgan Freeman in Se7en, HE IS SO GOOD IN THIS, HES MY FAV ACTOR

  49. Julianne Moore as Clarice in Hannibal. I like the relationship between her and Doctor Lectar.

  50. Harry H Corbett in Carry On Screaming, it was so bad it was good!

  51. Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs

  52. Can’t decide which, so I’ll have to say both Brad Pitt & Morgan Freeman in Se7en – complimented each other brilliantly

  53. Morgan Freeman in Se7en ….. classic movie

  54. Michael Coles as Inspector Murray in both Dracula A.D. 72 and The Satanic Rites of Dracula. Mainly because I do love the old Hammer films, I think that they are ‘proper’ horror movies as opposed to torture movies, which I am not keen on.

I thought that the character was kind of awesome; he took some convincing that vampires existed, but was willing to be open-minded and investigate all avenues in order to stop the murders. He and Peter Cushing as Van Helsing were brilliant together.

  55. It has to be Lieutenant ‘Lefty’ Enright from TCSM 2; who brings 3 chainsaws to a fight ???

  56. Danny Glover as Tapp in Saw. That guy does not have a good time of it, but he did a great job of portraying the obsessed and frustrated detective

  57. Julianne Moore in hannibal. amazing film

  58. Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) in Silence of the Lambs

  59. From Hell with Johnny Depp

  60. Ken Leung as Detective Steven Sing in the movie SAW

  61. Morgan Freeman in Seven. He appears so wise and in control.

  62. Sgt. Howie in The Wicker Man. At first, it seems he is an upstanding, responsible policeman trying to find a young girl, but as the film goes on, he begins to show an uglier side; that of a preachy, Christian religious bigot…He is played brilliantly by Edward Woodward.

  63. Morgan Freeman in Se7en – but am a huge fan of the MorganMeister

  64. My vote goes to Morgan Freeman for seven. He’s got such a calm presence. He’s also fab in kiss the girls which is one of my favourite books

  65. I love Morgan Freeman and loved him in Se7en!

  66. Brad Pitt in se7en, great film.

  67. Sergeant Howie in the Wickerman, Great pagan shenanigans 🙂

  68. Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs. Brilliant acting in a very scary film.

  69. Jodie Foster stars as Clarice Starling

  70. Morgan Freeman in Se7en, fabulous actor

  71. Chris Sarandon in the first Childs Play movie.

  72. Clarice Starling in Silence Of The Lambs

  73. Donnie Wahlberg in Dead Silence – not that scary I know.

  74. Jodie Foster from Silence of the lambs. As she was amazing in the part of Clarice Starling

  75. Christian Redl (CI Minx) in Tattoo – excellent movie!

  76. Loved both Silence of the Lambs and Se7en, but to be a bit different, will go for foreign film, I Saw The Devil. Kim Soo- Hyeon (Byung-Hun Lee) hunts down the killer of his pregnant fiancé. I like serial killer films, tense and this kept my eyes glued to the screen.

  77. I’ve got to be really unoriginal and say Morgan Freeman/Brad Pitt in se7en, totally gripping.

  78. Jodie Foster in Slience of the lambs was brilliant

  79. Loved Shutter Island with Leonardo di Caprio who plays a detective great twist to the film

  80. Willem Dafoe as Detective Donald Kimball in American Psycho, such a great character actor and really squeezes the vice on Patrick Bateman to make him feel nervous and guilty.

  81. Tangina Barrons in Poltergeist, she was the funniest cutest little demon slaying ghost evicting spirit hunter ever. Such a power house with a squeaky voice LOL

  82. Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs because her acting was so good you could ‘feel’ what she was going through.

  83. Morgan Freeman in Se7en

  84. Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodwood) in The Wicker Man. I love the claustraphobic feel of the island community versus the outsider.

  85. Dr Loomis in Halloween. Although not quite a detective he always did a better job at tracking michael down.

  86. Edward Norton in Red Dragon. Excellent film, I liked it better than Silence of the Lambs.

  87. Jodie Foster in Silnece of the Lambs because the part was played very believably

  88. Morgan Freeman in Kiss the Girls – such a good actor!

  89. Clarice Starling in ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ wins my vote, an excellent performance from Jodie Foster and an absolute classic

  90. Eric Banner Deliver us from evil is my favourite ????

  91. I would say Morgan Freeman starring in seven- he played a blinder!

  92. Morgan freeman in se7en

  93. Jodie Foster / Silence of the lambs, as this was the 1st scary film I saw 😀

  96. Gabriel Byrne as Father Andrew Kiernan in Stigmata
he plays the part really well

  98. Denzel Washington playing Det Hobbes in Fallen, so cool and calm with some great lines

  99. Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs She played the part so perfectly

  100. has to be Charles Cyphers as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in Halloween, such a great film!!

  101. Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs as you see the human vulnerability

  102. Brad Pitt in Se7en, just love anything with him in!

  103. Jean Reno as Detective Schiffer in The Empire of the Wolves plays the role with dark menace and rather magnificent facial hair.

  104. Morgan Freeman in Se7en too. Great film and great actor!

  105. John Saxon as Lt. Donald Thompson from A Nightmare on Elm Street. One of my favourite movies and who better to play detective than the father of the daugthter who Kreuger is after! Absolute classic.

  106. Johnny depp in sleepy hollow great actor and he played his part brilliant ly!!!
