Maiden Woods is a remote and quiet town of decent, hard-working people but something stirs in the dark woods surrounding this isolated community. After a logging company decimates an area of the forest, a rash of increasingly violent and unexplainable events transpires. Sheriff Paul Shields (Kevin Durand) and his deputy (Lukas Haas) struggle to confront their own personal demons while facing down a new breed of raw terror that is possibly older than humanity itself… and much, much hungrier.

I love prosthetic effects, stop-motion animation and gore, but most of all I love a good story! I adore B-movies and exploitation films in many of their guises and also have a soft spot for creature features. I review a wide range of media including movies, TV series, books and videogames. I'm a massive fan of author Hunter S. Thompson and I enjoy various genre of videogames with Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon two of my all time favs. Currently playing: Kingdom Come: Deliverance

  1. Huh, now there’s a question. Probably something touched by Ray Harryhausen, probably Jason and the Argonauts or one of the Sinbad films – my Gran was a big fan of them, random.

  2. I can remember watching “The thing from another planet” when I was a kid back in the sixties. This has been remade 3 times as “The Thing” but the 1950’s original was a decent film from that era.

  3. Can’t remember – one of the Hammer features probably – maybe The Brides of Dracula.. Other than that possibly Alien.

  4. Jaws, possibly the greatest monster movie ever. Still stands the test of time in terms of the fear factor. Makes me twitchy in water even in a swimming pool

  5. Probably one of the old Dracula or Werewolf films when I was too young to watch them really lol. Didn’t matter as I love horror films even now. Our house is haunted too which helps. 😀

  6. “Day of the Triffids” (1962 version) which I saw when I was about six or seven. Fabulously scary then, a romp down Memory Lane today.

  7. When I was about 7 or 8 I snuck downstairs to watch “The Beast with Five Fingers”. My Mum only found out because I had turned the volume on the TV down really low!!! She didn’t tell me off, she thought I was really brave!!

  8. Frankenstein (1931 version) with boris karloff, although it was over 30 years old by the time i watched it as i wasn’t born till 1954 lol.

  9. Not sure if it counts, but I remember seeing The Blob with Steve McQueen when I was about 7 years old. Totally freaked me out!

  10. I would probably think Ghostbusters, I’ll never forget the nightmares after seeing ‘Slimer’ and the ‘Stay Puff Marshmallow Man’!

  11. I think the first monster movie I ever saw was probably a Scoobydoo cartoon, or possibly The Banana Splits (they were freaky!), although they aren’t really movies. Probably the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Leatherface was so misunderstood.

  12. Monster Squad. What makes Monster Squad really special are all the funny one-liners and the nostalgic look back at what it was like to be a kid in the 80s.
