It’s November, which means it’s that time of year again. You either love it or hate it, but either way feel compelled to purchase tokens of love (read: gifts) for your friends and family. Every year we are forced to use our noggin to think what to buy the person who has everything, but don’t worry, I’m here to do that for you!
If you have a film fan in your life, or indeed you’re looking ideas for yourself, then check out our Christmas Gift Guide below for 2013.
DVDs and Blu-Rays
Well, if you’ve been reading HCF this year, you’ll have seen our Ross buzzing off his head with Breaking Bad fever. If you’re like me and haven’t experienced the Walter White phenomenon, then you may wanna stick the Breaking Bad: The Complete Series Set on your Xmas wish list. Not only does it feature the episodes, but also a vast array of extras.
For fans of the yummy Harrison Ford as the intrepid achaeologist adventurer Indiana Jones, all four films are available from 2nd December on Blu-ray separately, ideal if you like a particular film from the series.
If you’re looking for something extra special, then check out classic style horror Lord of Tears, who’s Collector’s Edition DVD/Blu-ray gives you a real bang for your buck, complete with booklet, soundtrack and comprehensive behind-the-scenes digi book!
If comedy is your thing, then why not check out This Is The End, a hilarious apocalyptic film where six friends are trapped in James Franco’s house. Yes, you read that correctly. Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen et al star as themselves in the movie which also features an amusing appearance from Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson.

Videogames
Not everyone loves videogames, but if your loved one does, there is an excellent wealth of options for presents this year. Xbox One and PS4 are on the next generation consoles on sale ahead of Xmas which will make a perfect big present for any little or big kid this Christmas, though expect a rush on these.
For smaller gaming presents, there’s an almost endless array of titles available, but do remember to ask the recipient what games they prefer or would like to avoid duplication. If you’re strapped for cash, GAME do pre-owned titles too which are often substantially cheaper than the new game.
PC gamers who use Steam would be more than happy with some Steam credit, which you can also buy from GAME (instore only), so they can choose their own games in the inevitable Steam Xmas sale.
The top titles this year include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Pokemon X and Pokemon Y for the Nintendo 3DS, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag available on various platforms.

Books
Who doesn’t love to get stuck in a good book? I know we certainly do. With many film adaptations being released, there’s plenty to choose from including The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, which will get you up to speed with the films.
How about Seth Patrick’s Reviver, which I reviewed in September, a terrific supernatural thriller that is being adapted into a film by Legendary Pictures – the guys behind Man of Steel!
For fans of Giallo, you cannot be without Alan Jones’ Dario Argento: The Man, The Myth and the Magic, which has been updated and retitled after its original incarnation Profondo Argento sold out completely. Besides its full length interviews, the book features all-new illustrations., never-before-seen behind the scenes photos, exclusive shots specially produced for this book, rare artwork and stills. A definite must buy for any horror fan!
If you fancy something a bit historical, then you might wanna check out Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief, which has been adapted into a film due out in UK cinemas in December starring Geoffrey Rusha and Emily Watson. The story revolves around a young girl named Liesel, living in Nazi Germany, who finds a book in the snow. She falls in love with literature and starts to steal books from Nazi book-burnings.
And finally, if you fancy something a bit more visual instead, then why not check out Robert Kirkman’s graphic novel The Walking Dead, a must for any fan of the TV series or zombie genre!
Superhero Cozy Slankets
It’s winter… there’s nothing better than snuggling up in front of the fire with a nice hot cuppa watching the same Xmas movies they screen on TV every year… except this time, you could be doing so in a cuddly superhero cozy!
Available in 4 different styles: Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman, these slankets (blankets with sleeves) are just perfect for any comic book fan. Though me must disclose that these cozy slankets do not give you any special superhero powers, but you will look absolutely fantastic wearing one! 😉
Pacific Rim Figurines
Guillermo del Toro brought us Kaiju vs robots this summer with Pacific Rim and now your loved one can recreate their own monstrous battles with Pacific Rim Jaeger and Kaiju figurines!
These 7 inch posable figures made by NECA are brilliant to display or play with, and any Pacific Rim fan would absolutely love them. I can see our own Dr Lenera drooling at the other side of the office in hope that he’ll find one in his stocking!
Choose from jaegers Gipsy Danger, Striker Eureka and Crimson Typhoon or kaiju Leatherback or Knifehead.
We hope that we’ve given you some ideas for Christmas presents for film fans and even though it’s a wee bit early, have a Merry Christmas from everyone here at HCF!
