UniFrance Films and the Institut français in London are delighted to announce the new edition of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema. The annual showcase of contemporary French cinema will take place from April 23rd – 28th 2014 in key cities across the UK including London (at Curzon Soho & Ciné Lumière), Bristol, Cambridge, Canterbury, Nottingham and Oxford.
Isabelle Giordano, Executive Director of UniFrance Films, commented “we’re delighted to present a wide selection of the most recent French films for the 5th edition of our festival. This year is a great opportunity to show the UK film industry and public the best of French cinema. You will discover some of France’s favorite films and of course recognize some familiar faces but I’d also like to draw your attention to the vitality, renewal and richness of French directors. Our priority this year is to present the diversity of our filmmakers with a special program featuring an exclusive compilation of powerful images from film, music videos, commercials and short films. I wish you all an excellent festival, filled with wonderful surprises and good films.”
The 2014 event showcases an outstanding line up of cinema all screening at Rendez-Vous with French Cinema this year prior to their theatrical release. The programme opens on April 23rd with Bright Days Ahead (Les Beaux jours) at the Curzon Soho followed by a Q&A with lead actress, Fanny Ardant and the film’s director, Marion Vernoux.
Programme highlights include a Q&A with director Jean-Pierre Jeunet following the screening of The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet (L’Extravagant Voyage du jeune et prodigieux T.S. Spivet), a Q&A with director Agnès Troublé (aka agnès b.) following a screening of her feature directorial debut, My Name is Hmmm… (Je m’appelle hmmm…), a Q&A with Martin Provost, director of Violette, and Emmanuelle Seigner, star of Venus in Fur (La Vénus à la fourrure) and a Q&A with director-actor Albert Dupontel for his film 9 Month Stretch (9 Mois Ferme).
Titles screening at the event include:
– Quai d’Orsay, a comedy set in the French ministry of Foreign and European Affairs directed by the celebrated Bertrand Tavernier
– Belle & Sebastian (Belle et Sébastien), the story of a six-year-old boy and his dog who foil a Nazi effort to capture French resistance fighters
– Life of Riley (Aimer, Boire et Chanter) based on the Alan Ayckbourn play in which two actors discover that their friend is fatally ill. The last film of the late legendary director Alain Resnais, the film was awarded the Alfred Bauer prize at the Berlin Film Festival this year
– Hiroshima mon amour : Alain Resnais’ masterpiece screened on a restored print
A tribute to the late director Alain Resnais will also take place.
