UK Jewish Film Festival 2014 To Take Place at 14 Cinemas Across London

UK Jewish Film have announce that the 18th annual showcase of contemporary Jewish film will take place in 14 cinemas across London (including the BFI Southbank, Curzon Mayfair and JW3) as well as various venues in Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham and Glasgow.

The 2014 event will showcase an outstanding line-up of cinema from around the globe with the programme opening on 6th November with The Art Dealer at the BFI Southbank introduced by director Francois Margolin. Other gala screenings at this year’s festival include: Zero Motivation, winner of the prestigious Nora Ephron prize at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, with Nelly Tagar in attendance for a Q&A, acclaimed documentary The Green Prince, featuring a Q&A with director Nadav Schirman and Bethlehem, which will be followed by a Q&A with lead actor Tsahi Halevi.

The programme features a series of documentaries from across the world. Highlights include : Brave Miss World, the story of Israeli beauty queen Linor Abargil whose advocacy work in women’s rights takes her from South Africa to Hollywood, Natan, illuminating the little-known life of the founder of modern cinema, Bernard Natan, and dazzling Cannes documentary, The Go-Go Boys : The Inside Story of Cannon Films.

Judy Ironside, Founder and Executive Director of UK Jewish Film commented: “The 18th UK Jewish Film Festival represents the culmination of a challenging time and illustrates, yet again this year, the diversity of our programming. Seeking wide appeal from our audiences we invite films that represent a truly global view of Jewish and Israeli stories, and the diversity of life in Jewish cultures worldwide, in both fiction and documentary films.’

Managing director, Michael Etherton added: “The scale of this year’s UK Jewish Film Festival – more than 90 films and 150 screenings – speaks volumes about the excitement and interest generated each year by the festival. We are proud to bring to audiences across London and the UK a unique and significant range of world class cinema as well as many of the outstanding creative talents behind these films.”

Further programme highlights include:

– Gett, The Trial of Viviane Amsalem : the story of Viviane Amsalem’s five-year fight to obtain a divorce in front of the Rabbinical Court, the only legal authority able to grant divorces in Israel
– Self-Made : the story of two women – one Israel, one Palestinian – who one day find themselves living the life of the other on the opposite side of the border
– 24 Days: a white-knuckle dramatization of the kidnapping and torture of Ilan Halimi. Director Alexandre Arcady is confirmed to attend
– The Attack : a terrifying look at how terrorism can strike anybody at any time and change their lives forever
– Victor Young Perez : an epic historical drama charting the story of Victor Perez, boxing world champion in 1930 ‘s Paris
– Magic Magic : a father and son road trip from Israel to Greece

A number of film-makers and guests will be in attendance at the festival including Anywhere Else actress Romi Abulafia, fresh from its prize-winning debut at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, producers Lola Bessis and Ruben Amar, Maureen Lipman and producer of Angriest Man in Brooklyn, Dan Walker.

Throughout the course of the festival there will be over 150 screenings of feature films, TV, shorts and documentaries from over 27 countries including Argentina, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, the Philippines and Rwanda.

Tickets for this year’s festival will go on sale from 24th September and can be purchased directly via the cinema.
