I was only thinking the other day that it’s astonishing that one of the most famous and influential horror movies of all time still hasn’t officially been released in its uncut form for home viewing. Censors in 1960 trimmed three scenes and it was this version that was seen in most countries. However, the full version has been shown on German TV for many years – and at last it’s getting a Blu-ray release – but only in Germany. The Psycho Legacy Collection from Turbine Media Group includes all four of the Psycho movies, as well as that 1998 remake we all try to forget and even the original Bates Motel television movie, plus the Psycho Legacy documentary.
The set will be released on January 31st, 2019. I guess the cut bits won’t look too good, but seeing as I don’t own any of the films on Blu-ray I”ll probably import it as long as there’s an English audio option. After all, it doesn’t seem like Universal are interested in working on this themselves. The cuts only last a few seconds but do diminish the impact of three scenes, especially the murder of Arbogast.
