Horror Movies Centered Around American Football

When it comes to horror movies, sport isn’t the first thing that pops into your mind. However, directors are sometimes brave enough to explore new boundaries and find new ways of scaring people.

Sports movies, usually in football are usually positive, biographical, and/or inspiring, but once in a while we can find a horror movie that includes a sporting element just to unite the fans of both genres.

In today’s article, we will go through some of the best horror movies that have the right mix of spooky and cheesy just for the right entertainment, especially when there are no football matches on TV. So, next time you can do some in-play football betting in TwinSpires while watching one of these horror movies.

The Faculty

This movie is about a group of teenagers that find that their teachers are aliens that drain humans dry to live. As this alien epidemic spreads to other students, people in town are starting to grow paranoid.

One of the most surprising things about this movie is the oddly likable performance from some of the actors. The ones that stood out are Salma Hayek playing the flu-stricken nurse, Famke Janssen as English teacher, and Robert Patrick the hard-nut football coach.

On top of that, this movie is full of other talented actors like Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood, Jon Steward, Christopher McDonald, and even Usher managed to get a role.

The main focus is the few misfit students who are the first to notice this change in their school. This group is structured by the biggest high-school student stereotypes and we have a drug-selling bad-boy that is also a science genius, a girl struggling with abuse, the popular football hero, and the new girl. What could go wrong?

Jeepers Creepers 2

The sequel of Jeepers Creepers 2 finds a completely new direction. The movie is about teen football players and cheerleaders that are stranded on a bus that looks like the next victims of the titular Creeper monster that has been circling around that area.

It seems like the Creeper didn’t get enough victims in the original movie coming for more blood in the second.

Unlike the original, the director for Jeepers Creepers 2 decided to include more special effects.

On the downside, some of the extra money spent on special effects could have been used on creating a better wardrobe budget, especially since most of the well-developed football players walk around shirtless.

The Rage: Carrie 2

This is a supernatural horror film directed by Katt Shea and with Emily Bergl, Jason London, and Dylan Bruno taking the leading roles. This movie is a sequel to the 1974 novel of the same name by Stephen King.

Carrie 2 focuses on Rachel Lang, a girl that grew up in foster care, and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Many people have mistaken her telekinesis as possessions by Satan. Fast forward to her high-school years, her best friend Lisa Parker commits suicide by leaping from the roof of the school after a popular football star from the school rejected her after exploiting her for sex.

After going back and forth with the police and countless complaints by Erica, it is uncovered that the football players from the school are competing to see who can seduce the most girls, which will lead to various scandals with the police.

However, Rachel is a special girl that has the ability to move things with her mind when she becomes emotionally distressed. Even though Rachel using her powers might not be the most typical horror moment we are used to seeing, there are some parts of the film when the situation can get a lot more unsettling.

The movie is about the dark past of some of the young girls who are victims of the cocky football players who are often bullied by their coach with misogynistic insults as a bizarre form of motivation.

House of Wax

Here we have another football-infused horror movie, with Paris Hilton as one of the main actors. House of Wax is about a group of individuals who travel to Louisiana for a football game. However, as every horror movie goes, things are about to turn wrong when they set up camp.

In the morning they notice a horrible smell and a broken fan belt which leaves them stranded. They go to the nearest town to find a mechanic, but quickly realize that the town is empty and there are almost no people on the streets.

While their car is getting fixed they decide to visit the Wax museum filled with posed wax sculptures. From that point, the movie is about a race to escape Ambrose before it’s too late. We wouldn’t want to give too much away about the mystery of the wax museum, but it is definitely creepy filled with a lot of unsettling moments.
