Where will the ball land when the roulette wheel stops spinning? Whose poker face is hiding that they are holding a royal flush? Casinos are known to be places where suspense and mystery go hand in hand. Therefore, it’s no surprise that many great horror movies have been set in abandoned casinos. To shine a light on these perhaps lesser-known movies, we’ve put together a list of some of the best horror movies in which casinos are a strong feature. Beware – this isn’t a list for the faint-hearted!
Remains (2011)
In Colin Theys’ Remains, based on Steve Niles’ cult graphic novel, a nuclear disaster turns most of the world’s population into flesh-eating zombies. This nail-biting movie follows a group of survivors who are attempting to stay alive in this post-apocalyptic new world.
The survivors band together in the ruins of a casino, in Reno, Nevada. The setting makes for the perfect backdrop for such a hair-raiser of a movie. When the survivors head a signal through their walkie-talkies, they are imbued with a sense of hope that there might just be other survivors out there…

Leprechaun 3 (1995)
Starring Warwick Davies, John Gatins, and Lee Armstrong, Leprechaun 3 begins with a pawn shop owner purchasing a leprechaun statue from a stranger in Las Vegas. This statue turns out to be an evil leprechaun, who vows to kill anyone who takes his gold. First on his hit-list are Armstrong and Gatins characters.
Throughout the movie, the leprechaun goes on a bloodthirsty rampage, grants others’ twisted wishes, and infects a young man with his green blood.
Spirits of the Dead (1969)
The oldest movie of the bunch, Spirits of the Dead has a classic horror movie feel to it. It’s a combination of three Edgar Allen Poe stories: Toby Dammit, Metzengerstein, and William Wilson. The latter, William Wilson, is about a cruel Austrian student. During this story, there is a sequence that is set in a casino, and this section is bound to have you on the edge of your seat.
