Your partner is nagging you to join the gym? Go on a run? To lose a bit of tummy fat?
Well from now on, put away the trainers, remove the sweatband and grab the remote and chuck on a horror film! That’s right, watching a horror makes you lose weight!
A study from a few years back and now only brought to my attention, confirms what all horror junkies love to hear, that watching your favourite bogeyman slashing his away through a bunch of teenagers, will actually make you lose a few pounds, and here is a list of the Top 10 horror films in which you can start your training.
The top 10 calorie-burning frightening films were:
1. The Shining: 184 calories
2. Jaws: 161 calories
3. The Exorcist: 158 calories
4. Alien: 152 calories
5. Saw: 133 calories
6. A Nightmare on Elm Street: 118 calories
7. Paranormal Activity: 111 calories
8. The Blair Witch Project: 105 calories
9. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre: 107 calories
10. [Rec]: 101 calories
How is that for the a bit of Saturday good news!
Dr Richard Mackenzie a specialist in cell metabolism and physiology at the University of Westminster, said: “Each of the ten films tested set pulses racing, sparking an increase in the heart rate of the case studies. As the pulse quickens and blood pumps around the body faster, the body experiences a surge in adrenaline.
“It is this release of fast acting adrenaline, produced during short bursts of intense stress (or in this case, brought on by fear), which is known to lower the appetite, increase the Basal Metabolic Rate and ultimately burn a higher level of calories.”
So technically what they saying is if you sit there and watch a 90 minute horror, you will literally burn 113 calories which is the same amount you burn on a half-hour walk.
Now, where is my Halloween box-set?
