Well, i liked it!!!  I found this film to be utterly disturbing and so gloriously original and inventive it was hard not to like it. The film starts and we see a trucker pull over and go for a shit in a bush, he is then shot with a tranquiliser dart and taken hostage by the truly wonderful Dr Heiter. Cut to two highly attractive, but a bit dim American tourists (the film is based in Germany) and the stage is set for a horror film like no other. The two girls head off to a club, only whilst driving through the country at night, they get a flat tyre. A wonderfully creep scene follows as a fat passing motorist pulls up to help and seems to think they are porn stars. He proceeds to speak disgusting things to them in German, but the girls have no idea what he’s talking about. He just sits and stares at them for some time before waggling his tongue at them. It’s actually quite an unsettling scene.

Anyway, after trekking through the woods the girls stumble across Dr Heiters house. Cold and wet, they seem to have missed the fact he talks like a bit of a weirdo. With his full on German accent and piercing eyes, he is one of the greatest bad guys of recent times. He asks the girls if they are alone. David picked up on this point being a key point as to not go into his house. To play Devil’s advocate, I argue that it show the man is a bit cautious  Anyway, he spikes their water and pretty soon he has them tied to beds awaiting their fate. Oh, and what a fate it is. The guy caught with his pants down in a bush is killed off because now he doesn’t fit the bill, and so a very shouty Japanese tourist is captured. Dr Heiter, like all medical experts, explains the procedure to his subjects, to make them feel at ease I suppose. “Yeh, I’m just gonna cut a hole in your arse, cut a hole in your mouth and connect them up, and you at the back, I will cut a hole in your mouth and connect you to the arse of the person in front of you!”. Obviously he uses a lot more detail and medical talk  The idea is shocking, and I didn’t expect it to happen quite so quick. There is a chase sequence as one of the poor girls tried to escape, and to be fair her choices of what to do weren’t THAT bad, she was just in a panic.

Anyway, the centipede is revealed, and it looks glorious! Whoever played the Japanese guy had possibly the best job of last year, having a seriously sexy girl attached to his behind for the majority of the film! It’s fascinating to watch how the good Dr tries to teach his new pet to fetch him the paper, to walk, and finally to eat. In a shocking scene, the guy (who is at the front) suddenly needs a shit, and with the poor girl in the middle attached to his ass, where do you think the shit goes  The whole idea is the head will eat, shit it out to pass it through the middle, who in turn will shit it into the last person connected, who eventually actually shits it out! Like I said, the idea is fascinating! The good Dr is reason enough to enjoy this film, never mind the two gorgeous girls, some sickening surgery work (a scene with teeth is hard to watch), and just the whole brilliance of its idea. It’s not particularly scary, it’s just a bit sick and the ending is yet another bloody miserable finish. I loved it and I cannot wait for part 2 which is apparently 100% medically INaccurate, as opposed to this 100% medically accurate tale.

A keen enthusiast and collector of all horror and extreme films. I can be picky as i like quality in my horror. This doesn't necessarily mean it has to be a classic, but as long as it has something to impress me then i'm a fan. I watch films by the rule that if it doesn't bring out some kind of emotive response then it aint worth watching.
