   RUBBER

“Put your carrot away Jack The Killer Frost, there is a new cult in town!”

I really do not know where to start!

Right, this is not a joke!  This is not a made up review because I thought it would be funny to make up a film and wind my regular readers up.  Neither is it April Fools Day, go ahead, check you calendar, we are now way past that date!, no this is an actual film, a horror that is set to blow everything away this year and its all to do with a new slash king in town who goes by the name of Robert!

You see Robert is upset!  He witnesses a terrible fire in which all his “brothers!” have burnt to death and he wants revenge!  Big revenge.  So off he goes, killing everyone in sight.  No remorse, no worries of pangs of guilt, just a determination to see justice is done.  Nothing and no one will stop him until his quest is done, and with the power of Telekinesis which makes him capable to blow everything up, he is a mad psycho that even puts Freddy and Jason to shame!

So what is the difference?  why the drama from me at the beginning of this review?  Well did I tell you that Robert is not human, of course for slash fans that really does not matter I mean Jason was virtually a Zombie after part 6, and Freddy was a bogeyman who lived in dreams so it does not matter that Robert is not human form.  Well it does!  Because Robert is a TYRE….
SILENCE!

Hello?  anyone still there?  If you are then you heard me right!  Robert is a TYRE, a wheel with a blood thirst to avenge the deaths of all his kind from the treatment of us humans and if anyone is STILL reading this, then Rubber is the most insane and bonkers horror you will see in 2011…..but does that mean its any good!

For a start the concept may be crazy but the entire sub-plots that surround the film are even more!  We see a bunch of people watching the chaos unfold through a pair of binoculars.  Reason?  Who knows!  Rubber is not here to answer the demanding questions that we hear shouting from the audience, it does not care about the what’s and the whys and to be fair to director Quentin Dupieux why should he, this is a film about a tire for goodness sake, reason and logic are way out of the window.  But that is the appeal of such a surreal film.  You can not help but laugh out loud with what’s going on! even though the running time is way too long for such premise, and while you marvel at the deaths at the start you will soon to get tired (sorry poor pun) at the endless death scenes that fail to vary and entice the more demanding audience.

Rubber is an oddity from beginning to end, in the very first scene we see a character break the fourth wall and speak to us the watching horror fans.  It continues in this vein through out, its bold and original, a surreal piece of film making that is 80% comedy and 20% horror, a film that you will never forget for its stupidity yet enjoyment factor.

It really is 2011’s most original film……a movie born for the cult legacy it strives to be at!

OVERALL: A Rolling death machine that will make you laugh and stunned, the premise is stretched towards the middle section but by then you be too busy hooked to care……

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Since my mother sat me down at the age of five years of age and watched a little called Halloween, I have been hooked on horror. There is no other genre that gets me excited and takes me to the edge of entertainment. I watch everything from old, new, to cheap and blockbusters, but I promise all my readers that I will always give an honest opinion, and I hope whoever reads this review section, will find a film that they too can love as much as I do! Have fun reading, and please DO HAVE NIGHTMARES!!!!!!
