‘Welcome to Earth!’ On July 26th 2015, R.A.D Film Screenings and TROF present a special double bill of 90s blockbusters ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Twister’ at Gorilla in Manchester.
Once upon a time in Hollywood there was an era when studios were not obsessed with endless sequels, prequels, reboots and spandex laden heroics. In 1996 it was all about global annihilation, either from an alien invasion or the destructive power of Mother Nature. Filming has just begun on the long awaited sequel to Independence Day, due out in June 2016, so it’s the perfect opportunity to view a blockbuster classic.
In ‘Twister’, we join Dr. Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) and an underfunded team of student storm chasers during the approach of the most powerful storm in decades! As things get blustery the gang prepare the prototype for Dorothy, a ground-breaking tornado data-gathering device conceived by Jo’s estranged husband, Bill (Bill Paxton). When Harding tells Bill that Dorothy is ready for testing — and that their dastardly privately funded rival Dr. Jonas Miller (Cary Elwes) has stolen the idea and built his own — Bill rejoins the team for one last mission. A must watch for anyone wanting to see cows flying and Bill Paxton kicking a tornado’s arse.
